Oh no! Carvel is gone too!

It's hard to get too weepy-eyed over an missed opportunity for ice cream on one of the coldest days of the year, but this is a big deal. The sign on the door of the Flower Mound Carvel ice cream store (FM2499 & FM407) tonight says "Closed. Thank you for your business."

We just lost the indie Duke's Ice Cream on the south side last September. Now Carvel is gone too. That leaves Marble Slab (never a bad choice) in the middle of Town, and Braum's near the Lewisville line. If you're really desperate for Carvel, there's apparently still a store in Coppell.

And while there's no ice cream consolation yet for us Southsiders, at least you Northsiders mourning Carvel can look forward to a new Ben and Jerry's going in to that new mega-shopping center in Highland Village.

Who knew ...

Flower Mound had a metal detecting club?

Fantasy Town Council election matchup

Marsha Gavitt vs Charlie Barrett. Check out the very well-written dueling letters regarding Market Street/Urban Forest in this weekend's "The News Connection". Each letter takes an opposite side, but both cut to the core of the issue. I can't link you directly to the letters because they're not posted online. But you can, for this week only, download the big PDF of the whole paper. Or if Marsha and Charlie are reading, perhaps they'll post their letters here for you to read.

Put the two of them together on the ballot - it would be a heckuva race.
