Look at all these comments!

I haven't gotten my website stats yesterday for Saturday, though I'm sure the nice article in the The News Connection brought a lot of new visitors to the site. One thing I can tell is that yesterday was a record day for people to post comments here, and there were some good ones. So take a moment to scroll down this page, and check the Archive pages too, and you'll find lots of wisdom and some good questions being shared by new readers. I'll respond to some of those comments directly later today or tonight. Thank you all for stopping by.

How do you get your website stats? And what sort of stats do you get? According to the TNC article, you are getting international visitors?? How do you know if they don't leave a comment?

My website hosting company tracks visitors to my site. I get a report each morning that tells me how many unique visitors stop by each day, and which pages are the most popular. I get stats on how people get referred to my site -- did you type in the URL directly, or come via Google?

When you surf the Net, you surf anonymously, to a point. You are identified on the Internet by a numeric called an IP (internet protocol) address. Something like 64.104.86.210. That IP is assigned to your ISP (Verizon, Comcast, AOL), and further, that IP can often be traced to a general area (country or state). An IP from Israel would be different from one in Sweden, or one in Virginia or Texas. That's how my hosting company can tell I've had international traffic. But whether they meant to come to the site, or just happened here by mistake (Google search)... I don't know.

Right now, I'm averaging just under 100 unique visitors per day -- not bad for a relatively-young blog.

Oh, cool!! Yes, I knew a little about IP addresses. According to the CSI TV Shows, a person's IP address can lead someone right to their home physical address (not sure if that's totally accurate, but I guess if it leads to my service provider then they - my service provider - can lead someone to my actual address). H-m-m-m...
