Now that's good news -- take a look at the News Connection now

Never before has our town been so well served with local news. The Flower Mound Leader is as reliable as ever, reporting on most of the comings and goings in town. Their new writer Cecile Satin is writing four or five local stories a week. The Messenger is solid, albeit in a corporate/generic sort of way. The Morning News throws us a local news bone every now and then, but that bone often gets lost in the big backyard that is the Dallas paper. But the real emerging influence in our neighborhood is The News Connection.

Take a look at this week's front page. Four solid news stories. Two were "news of the day" (LISD camping controversy and Lang for Mayor), but a third was an exclusive on tax complaints in Lantana. The fourth was a newsmaker interview, and they've become known for these. I'm amazed that they get all these newsmakers to come by their office. That shows the paper's influence is gaining, and it shows TNC's voice is getting stronger.

Now I think they still need an experienced copy editor to refine these stories, and they need to work at generating multiple sources for more of their stories. But those are professional quibbles only, and I think we'll see even better coverage as the paper matures. I think readers of The News Connection are getting an exceptional deal in coverage, made even more exceptional because the paper they're reading is free. Go get 'em TNC!
