It's Appraisal Protest Season -- we need The News Connection!

Remember that really provocative series of stories The News Connection did a few months ago about the Denton County Appraisal District? Now's the time, guys, to pick that story up again. Are there any follow-ups to the stories you did back then? How about following some folks to their appraisal protest hearings that will start up in the next week or two?

Does anyone here have stories to tell about their experiences with the DCAD? Post them here by clicking on the Comments link.

I had no idea about the TNC series, I'll check it out. I definitely have a problem with DCAD - something is up but I don't know what. We protested a couple of years ago. When we mentioned a nearby home in our neighborhood's lower value they said, "That's a special situation, you can't use that one to compare." What??? I am very suspicious of the district, fed up with it to be honest. I'm mad as... well, you know what I mean.

Not to worry, Mr. Mahaney. TNC remains proactive. We've got more sources inside the district (gotta love the patriotic whistleblowers) and a whole slew of new leads. You'll see the fruits of our labor the first week of June.

Grrrr. Even with a 10% cap, our home's value would double in 7.2 years using the rule of 72. Makes a tiny rate reduction meaningless if the values are artificially raised. No way would our house sell for what the district has it appraised at.
