Thumbs-down for FM's plan to switch recycling plans

Thanks to regular Road reader Marcia for reminding me the results are in on the Town survey regarding a proposed switch in recycling services.

I'm not surprised, but the results were overwhelmingly against paying more for less service, albeit with larger tubs.

Having lived in Plano for a number of years now I'm always perplexed by the complaints other cities have with recycling and garbage pickup.

In Plano we have garbage pickup once a week and recycling pickup every other week. When we first moved here we had a small green bucket to put recycling in. Then they switched over to the big container on wheels with a divider in the middle to sort the recycling. After a year or so of that, they told us we no longer had sort the stuff.

This system works well and with few complaints. I don't understand why people in other cities are so adverse to this kind of system.

I'm not adverse to recycling. I'm adverse to a HUGE bin taking up space in my garage when the little one works just fine for weekly pick up. The over-sized bin was more than twice the size of what we have now, so even every-other-week pick up with the HUGE bin would be too large.
